sell old door knobsYes, if you have a box of them stored away, you certainly can scrap door knobs. Since you likely have different types of metal door knobs, it would be wise to separate them accordingly to their metal type.

Steel, copper, brass, iron and aluminum scrap are all used to make various door knobs that you will find attached to doors and drawers in your home.

Not only can you scrap old door knobs, you can also unscrew and then remove the locking mechanism and add that to your scrap bucket as well.

The majority of these are made from steel but they are still valuable.

Door knobs are often replaced during home renovations. Therefore, the likelihood of finding more than two or three of them at a time is kind of slim.

There are a couple of things that you can do if you are focusing on obtaining large quantities of this type of scrap metal.

Local builders and home remodelers come in contact with old door knobs all of the time.

Arrange or set up an agreement to pick up this type of scrap metal from them and any other household scrap metal that they are looking to get rid of.

When people renovate their homes, they often rent large dumpsters in order to make clean up more easy to manage.

If while you are out on your scrap route and happen to see one of these dumpsters in someone’s driveway knock on the homeowner’s door and ask them if they have or would allow you to remove all of the scrap metal from the dumpster.

They will more than likely allow you to do so. Be sure that you leave them a business card, especially if the homeowner is still in the middle of the repair.

This way they can contact you regarding other metal discards that they have instead of throwing them into the dumpster.
